Ingredients:
Here's an overview of what you'll need to make this Frozen Shrimp in Air Fryer recipe, but keep scrolling for the full recipe amounts.
- Shrimp: I like to use larger shrimp for this. The time for this recipe is for large shrimp, which are 26-30 a pound. You can also use extra-large or jumbo shrimp, but they will need up to a minute more to cook. You can use medium shrimp, but it will take a minute or two less to cook. For frozen shrimp recipe, buy ones that are already peeled and deveined because you can't peel and devein frozen shrimp. I left the tails on for the photos, but you can remove them to eat them more easily, especially if you are serving them to kids. Make sure all of the shrimp are separated and not in a clump.
- Blackened Seasoning: I use my homemade Blackened Seasoning, which is a blend of smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and oregano. You can also use store-bought blackening seasoning. This recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of the blackening seasoning, which makes these shrimp kid-friendly, but if you like it extra blackened, you can add 1 or 2 tablespoons more. You can also substitute Cajun seasoning or Old Bay Seasoning.
- Olive Oil Spray: I love using this Olive Oil spray to get an even coat of my seafood and vegetables before air frying. You could also use an avocado oil spray or melted butter.
- Kosher Salt & Black Pepper

Instructions:
This is an overview of the instructions to make this Frozen Shrimp in Air Fryer, but the full detailed, printable recipe is below in the recipe card.
- Add the frozen shrimp to the air fryer basket. Make sure they are individual shrimp, and not one big frozen chunk of ice, or they will not cook. You also want them to be in a single layer. If you are making a lot, you may need to do it in more than one batch.
- Spray with olive oil. Sprinkle the blackening seasoning, salt, and pepper on the shrimp.
- Air fry at 400 for 10-12 minutes, until the shrimp are an opaque pink and just start to curl, as shown in the bottom photo.
- Remove the shrimp from the air fryer and serve with parsley, fresh lemon wedges and cocktail sauce.
Cooking Tips for Shrimp:
- Even frozen shrimp cooks fast. Once they start to curl, they are done. If they curl up tightly, they are overdone.
- They only need to reach about 120 degrees, unlike other meats.
- Don't overcook them, or they will be tough.
- They'll turn from blue-green to opaque pink below.

Variations
I love this Frozen Shrimp in Air Fryer as written, but here are some fun variations.
- Make it in the Oven: If you don't have an air fryer, you can make this recipe for oven-baked blackened Shrimp.
- Use Fresh Shrimp: If you want to cook raw shrimp that are fresh or already thawed, you just need to reduce the cooking time to 5 minutes.
- Make it Spicy: Add an extra sprinkle of cayenne pepper to bring up the heat.
- Change the Seasoning: You can easily change the seasoning mix or spices to give the fish a different flavor, depending on the meal you are trying to make. Here are some ideas from my collection of homemade spice blends.
