Air Fryer Halibut recipe
This Air Fryer Halibut, blackened to perfection, is such a great way to enjoy fish. Coming together in just 15 minutes, this recipe is so simple, but swapping out halibut for other fish gives this dish an elevated restaurant feel. This dish is diet-friendly, yet tastes too good.
Halibut is a mild white fish that's easy to make and enjoy. I got used to eating it after the Hubs went to Alaska to fish and brought home a few coolers of it for our chest freezer. There is nothing like enjoying fish that you caught in Alaska.
The air fryer is the perfect way to cook fish, including this Air Fryer Halibut. It cooks the fish quickly, giving it a tender, flaky texture without drying it out. It also cooks it fast, making this Air Fryer Halibut a great weeknight dinner. Since this dish isn't breaded, it's light and healthy. If you want a breaded halibut, try my Garlic Parmesan Crusted Halibut as well.
Serve it with Parmesan Oven Roasted Asparagus and Roasted Baby Red Potatoes for an irresistible, healthy meal the entire family will love.

Why You'll Love this Air Fryer Halibut...
- Air Fryer Halibut is so delicious and tender! Just look at how the fish flakes with a fork!
- Halibut can dry out when you cook it, but cooking it quickly in the air fryer prevents that.
- It's super healthy with no added breading or flour.
- You can customize the seasonings with your personal tastes or whatever else you are cooking for dinner.
- You can get this on the table in less than 15 minutes, start to finish.
- The air fryer is a foolproof way to cook fish. Even if you don't cook much, you can do this.

Ingredients:
Here's an overview of what you'll need to make this Air Fryer Halibut, but keep scrolling for the full recipe amounts.
- Halibut Fillets: Look for fresh halibut or frozen halibut fillets. If the halibut is frozen, thaw it in the fridge overnight. You don't see Alaska halibut in grocery stores quite as often as cod or salmon, so you might need to get it from a specialty grocery store or fish market to get the fish fillets. To prep the fish, pat it dry with a paper towel. Sometimes frozen halibut can retain water, so make sure to dry it and remove any excess moisture to help it cook and taste better.
- Olive Oil Spray: I like to use an olive oil spray when cooking in the air fryer to keep the calories down. This is one that I like. You can also use avocado oil. You can also drizzle the fish with olive oil or brush on melted butter.
- Seafood Seasoning: I like to use this Everglades Fish & Chicken Seafood Seasoning or Seafood Magic, but you can also use Old Bay Seasoning or your favorite seasoning. You can also use my homemade Blackening Seasoning, Seafood Seasoning, or Cajun Seasoning. You can also mix together in a small bowl your own with garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika or chili powder.
- Lemon: Use fresh lemon juice.
- Salt & Black Pepper: To taste
- Garnish: Lemon slices and fresh parsley or fresh herbs.

Instructions:
This is an overview of the instructions to make Air Fryer Halibut, but the full, detailed, printable recipe is below in the recipe card.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
- While the air-fryer is heating, pat the halibut well with paper towels.
- Put the halibut fillets in the air fryer basket, spray with olive oil, and drizzle with lemon. Sprinkle the fish with the fish seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish is white and flaky. The thickness of the filet can vary, so that will impact the cooking time. The thicker the fillet, the longer it takes to cook. I tested with the fillets in the photos, which were about an inch thick.
- Serve hot with fresh lemon and parsley.
Air Fryer Cooking Tips:
- Leave it Alone: Some air fryer halibut recipes have you flip the fish, but I don't think that is necessary, and you risk breaking it.
- Give it Space: Make sure the fish is spaced out in the air fryer in a single layer, not overlapping. If you make more than a few servings, you might need to work in batches.
- Don't Overcook: Halibut can dry out and lose its flavor if it's overcooked.
- How is it done? The halibut is done when it turns white and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time can vary depending on the air fryer and the thickness of the fish. The FDA recommends cooking fish until the internal temperature is 145 degrees Fahrenheit using a meat thermometer. I pull mine out a bit before then, closer to 137 degrees, so it doesn't get tough, but do that with caution if you have health issues.

Variations
I love this Air Fryer Halibut recipe as written, but here are some fun variations.
- Make it in the Oven: If you want to bake your halibut in the oven, try this recipe for Garlic Parmesan Halibut.
- Make it Spicy: Add an extra sprinkle of cayenne pepper to bring up the heat.
- Mix Up the Fish: You can easily make this recipe with almost any white fish. Also, try my Blackened Cod, Blackened Mahi Mahi, Blackened Swordfish, or Blackened Salmon. You can also try cod, haddock, snapper, seabass, or grouper.
- Mix up the Seasoning: You can easily adjust the seasoning mix or spices to give the air fryer flounder a different flavor, depending on the meal you are making. Here are some ideas from my collection of homemade spice blends.
Storage & Leftovers
You can store any leftover halibut in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I think it's best enjoyed freshly cooked out of the oven, but it does keep. To reheat it, put it in the microwave for about 1 minute.
Freezing
I would not re-freeze the cooked fish because it would turn mushy.
