Ingredients:
Here's an overview of what you'll need to make thisTortellini Pasta Bake recipe, but keep scrolling for the full recipe amounts.
- Frozen Tortellini: Use your favorite brand. I like to use the frozen cheese ravioli, as shown in the photo below, but you can use meat or spinach too. If you have fresh tortellini, I've included the instructions for that in the variations below.
- Italian Cheese: You can use the Mozzarella Cheese or Italian Cheese Blend from the store, which is often a blend of mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, asiago, and romano. You can also use just regular shredded mozzarella cheese if you prefer. Either will work great! I love the added depth of flavor of the pre-mixed Italian cheese.
- Parmesan Cheese: I also like to add some grated parmesan cheese to the mix. If you don't have this, you can add more Italian Cheese blend.
- Marinara Sauce: Use a good store-bought marinara sauce, since that's where most of this dish's flavor comes from. If you have extra time, you can make your own with my Crock Pot Marinara Sauce.
- Italian Seasoning: I make my own Italian Seasoning blend with oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, and sage. You can also use your favorite store brand.
- Water: Adding a small amount of water to the pasta sauce helps the tortellini cook without pre-boiling the dish.
- Optional: Garlic powder or garlic salt. You can also add some Parmesan cheese, if desired. If you are feeling fancy, you can garnish with fresh parsley or fresh basil.

Variations
I love this Tortellini Pasta Bake recipe as written, but here are some fun variations.
- Add Vegetables: You can easily layer in fresh spinach for a more veggie-heavy dinner. You could also layer in some veggies like shredded carrots, tomatoes, onion, zucchini, kale, mushrooms, or even bell peppers.
- Make it Alfredo: Give it a creamy texture by using Alfredo sauce.
- Make it Gluten Free: Use gluten-free tortellini.
- Make it Meaty: Add cooked beef or Italian sausage to the sauce
- Make it Spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- Make it Garlic: I love sprinkling garlic salt on my cheese layers.
- Use Fresh Ravioli: You can use fresh tortellini; just bake it for less time. Bake it covered for 10 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. Cooking time will be less than frozen.
