Vegetarian Fast Food & $25 Target Gift Card Giveaway Winner

First things first!  We have some business to handle.  It’s time to announce the winner of the $25 Target gift card giveaway.

Drum roll…..

Congrats to Crystal!

Crystal says: “They have some REALLY cute items! I think my fav is the C9 by Champion® Women’s Knit Run Skort!”

Target will be sending you the gift card directly.

Do you ever get in a rut where you just don’t have time to make a really good trip to the grocery store?  As much as I try to stay ahead, this still happens to me a lot.

I often wish there were good vegetarian and healthier options at fast food drive through windows. There are some healthy grilled chicken options, but as a pescatarian, I stuggle to find a decent meal at these places.

In high school I would go through the fast food burger joint and order a “cheeseburger with no burger” please.

That just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Here are some options I’ve found that are a little better in a “fast food” pinch.  And as a general rule… tiny iceberg lettuce salads and french fries don’t count as a meal in my book.

(I consider “fast food” anything that has a drive through that you can find at almost any interstate exit.  I put places like Subway, Panera, Moes and other “counter service” restaurants in a different category, as they often have plenty of vegetarian options.  I will hunt down the interstate signs that have “counter service” options when on a road trip)

*The calorie counts below are from their online menu listings*

Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait– 150 Calories

Egg White Delight (no meat)– 250 calories (advertised with meat- less than 200 without meat)

Fruit and Maple Oatmeal– 290 calories

Apple Slices– 15 calories

Burger King

BK Veggie Burger (Actually a Morningstar Veggie Pattie) – 217 Calories (198 w/o mayo)

Apple Slices – 30 Calories

Egg & Cheese Crosisanwhich – 280 Calories

BK Breakfast Muffin Egg & Cheese – 220

Quaker Oatmeal — 140 calories

“Market Fresh Veggie” – This is actually not on the menu, but I have found almost any Arby’s will make it for me.  It is the Market Fresh sandwich with cheese, veggies & sauce—no meat.  Since it’s not on the menu, they don’t advertise a calorie count.  Ask them to go light on the mayo based sauce to cut back on calories.  It’s a fairly hearty choice.

Apple Slices – 35 calories

Sour Cream and Chive Potato – 320 calories (get sour cream and butter on side and put much less on the reduce calories and sodium)

Garden Side Salad – 200 calories (good combo with potato)

Apple Slices – 40 calories

Taco Bell

* Warning! This stuff is pretty high in sodium, but I just can’t resist a “Run to the Border” every once in a while *

Pintos and Cheese 180 Calories

Fresco Bean Burrito 350 Calories

Cheese Quesadilla 480 Calories

And on a side note… completely separate from trying to find something “healthy”…. has anyone tried the Wendy’s frost in a cone yet?  I heard this is happening and it sounds amazing.

Mental note: Must try this summer… Smile

All things in moderation, huh?

My favorite fast food splurge is getting a red chili breakfast burrito from Blakes (it’s a New Mexico thing). One of my favorite healthier options in fast food is just going to subway.

Frosty in a cone?!?! Say what? Some of my favorite childhood memories involve going through the Wendy’s drive through my dad to get a frosty. Sounds like I need to try this soon šŸ™‚
